> Small Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR) Projects Related to 21M2 Needs Areas
The following SBIR 21M2 needs areas table identifies projects that received EPA SBIR awards between 1998 and 2008. These projects have supported needs areas identified under the 21M2 initiative. These advances could dramatically improve capabilities to characterize hazardous waste sites, to monitor remedial activities, to provide long-term monitoring for closed sites, and to support warning and identification activities in the event of an accidental or intentional chemical or biological release. EPA issues an annual solicitation for Phase I research proposals from science and technology-based firms. Under Phase I, the scientific merit and technical feasibility of the proposed concept is investigated. Through this phased approach, EPA can determine whether the research justifies a larger Phase II effort. The objective of Phase II is to work toward commercializing the Phase I technology. Phase II proposals may only be submitted by Phase I awardees invited to submit proposals at the completion of the Phase I research project. Phase III is funded with non-SBIR money, and Phase III awards are not listed in the SBIR 21M2 needs area awards table below. Summary Table of EPA SBIR 21M2 needs area awards 1998-2008 (41pp/1.1MB/PDF) For small businesses, potential funding for technology development is available through EPA's Small Business Innovation Research program, National Science Foundation (NSF) SBIR Opportunities in Environmental Technologies (2pp/26KB/PDF), and other funding opportunities. |
