Laboratory Analyst Training in the 1990's and Beyond
Roy-Keith Smith, PhD, Analytical Methods Manager
Analytical Services, Inc., 110 Technology Parkway, Norcross, Georgia 30092
Paper published in the Proceedings of WTQA '97
(13th Annual Waste Testing & Quality Assurance Symposium), pp. 172-182.
This
paper argues that many persons who work in environmental laboratories in
the United States can be characterized as having little to no idea of what
they are doing or why, resulting in a very low level of professionalism.
This article discusses the critical need for analyst training, the skills
that analysts need in order to be successful, designing a training program
to meet those needs, and documenting analyst training.
