Notice of Funding Opportunity: Superfund Hazardous Substance Research and Training Program (P42). The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Superfund Research Program (SRP) is pleased to announce the continuation of the Superfund Hazardous Substance Research and Training Program (P42). The Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO), RFA-ES-27-004, calls for applications to establish P42 Centers, which support problem-based, solution-oriented research relevant to Superfund. The Centers consist of multiple integrated projects representing both the biomedical and environmental science disciplines. Center cores are also tasked with administrative (that includes Center’s leadership, data management and analysis, and training functions) and translational research and engagement, and as applicable, research support functions. The next application due date is September 25, 2026 (5:00 PM local time of applicant organization). Small Business Program Funding Opportunities Are Now Available for NIH/NIEHS/Superfund Research Program NIH just released the new Small Business Notices of Funding Opportunity (NOFOs) for eligible U.S. small businesses advancing innovative technologies toward public health impact. In addition to reviewing the current funding opportunities, applicants are encouraged to register for NIH Small Business 101, a new webinar series designed to help small businesses prepare for this next chapter of the program. Attendees will learn how to navigate new opportunities and policy changes, with each session followed by live Q&A with NIH Small Business experts. Superfund Research Program (SRP) Progress in Research Summer 2026 Webinar Series: Session I - June 1, 2026, 3:00PM-5:00PM EDT (19:00-21:00 UTC) . This is a two-part event, the second session will be in July. This Progress in Research webinar series, hosted by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Superfund Research Program (SRP), showcases research from 6 schools funded by SRP in 2025. These awards were made as part of the P42 grant solicitation RFA-ES-20-014. In the two-part series, awardees will highlight their research projects, accomplishments, and next steps. The newly funded centers, including Oregon State University, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and University of Southern California, are bringing fresh ideas and approaches to tackle complex problems related to hazardous substances. ITRC: PFAS Chemistry Explained Training - June 9, 2026, 1:00PM-3:00PM EDT (17:00-19:00 UTC) . The Interstate Technology & Regulatory Council (ITRC) is presenting a training on the basics of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) chemistry. This training supplements the ITRC PFAS Introductory training and ITRC Beyond the Basics Training sessions. PFAS are an emerging group of contaminants that present unique challenges in many areas including: widespread use and presence in the environment, sampling and analysis, fate and transport, and remedial approaches. RemPlex and SURF: Enhanced Natural Attenuation: Pathways to Sustainable Remediation - Tuesday, June 16, 2026, 12:00PM-1:30PM EDT (17:00-18:30 UTC). While the helping hand of enhanced attenuation (EA) typically requires more activity than monitored natural attenuation (MNA), the approaches are intended to be lighter and more sustainable than fully active remediation approaches, such as pump-and-treat. This seminar explores specific EA technologies, their associated resource demands and impacts, and methodologies for evaluating and comparing the environmental footprint of different remediation approaches from green adsorbents to phytoremediation systems. Superfund Radiation Risk Assessment Training, July 6, 2026, National Harbor, MD. As part of the 2026 Health Physics Society Annual Meeting, the US EPA Superfund Radiation Dose Assessment class will be held on Monday July 6, 2026, in National Harbor, Maryland. The course is an interactive, full-day advanced program that addresses specific technical and regulatory challenges faced by site managers (e.g., Regional Project Managers, On-scene Coordinators) and technical staff (e.g., risk assessors, health physicists) involved in managing sites within the US Environmental Protection Agency's Superfund remedial program. US EPA and RAIS Screening Level Calculator Training for Chemical and Radionuclide Risk Analysis, September 14-17, 2026, Oak Ridge, TN. This training will primarily provide the participant with operational knowledge of key EPA and RAIS calculators. Additionally, the training and exercises will delve into the ability of the calculators to address site-specific exposures, unique toxicity assessments, and complex risk characterizations. In addition to classroom activities, tours are given of the Spallation Neutron Source facility, the High Flux Isotope Reactor, Frontier (ORNL's exascale supercomputer), and the Historic Graphite Reactor from the Manhattan Project. Save the Date! DoW Applied Innovation Workshop, November 30-December 4, 2026, Washington, D.C. The Department of War’s (DoW) Applied Innovation Workshop will bring together project teams, implementation partners, industry innovators, and students to enhance energy resilience, modernize infrastructure, and equip warfighters and installations with resources needed to fight and win in contested environments.
